If you haven't had a goji berry...they are really good! Goji berries are superfruits that have many vitamins and minerals including vitamin C, fiber, iron, vitamin A, zinc and, antioxidants.
The other reason why we chose a goji berry smoothie this month is that they can help boost your immune system. A boosted immune system and flu protection can go hand-in-hand. The vitamins in goji berries may be able to increase and support both.
A study found that the effectiveness of the flu vaccine could be helped by taking goji berries. This study with mice is important because the flu vaccine doesn’t always provide adequate protection against the virus.
This study suggests that goji berries may prevent subsequent infections for older adults who’ve received a flu vaccine. But remember, goji berries aren’t a replacement protection against the flu. Always consult your doctor if you have questions about your health.
Goji Berry Smoothie
- 1 cup water
- 1 fresh or frozen medium banana
- 1/2 cup fresh or frozen berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, etc)
- 1/4 cup goji berries
- 1 BioVi chewable tablet or capsule (empty the contents of the capsule and discard the capsule)
- A little honey, maple syrup, or stevia to sweeten (optional)
Place the ingredients into your blender and blend for about 30-45 seconds or until desired consistency is reached.
